Edwina's Creations Tutorials Coloring Hair with Copics.
First let me say I am not Copic certified. I learned to use Copics by reading and watching videos and then trying it myself. I do have 13 years of art classes in Oil, Watercolor and Pastels. I applied those techniques in learning Copics.

Note: When Using Copics I like to start with the darkest color and work up to the lightest. You can also start with the lightest and work up to the darkest. It will look different even thought you use the same colors. I suggest you try both ways to see what works best for you.
Copics used for the left digi Y21, Y28, YR21, YR24. Copics used for the right digi Y21, YR21, YR24, YR31.
Starting with the darkest color left- Y28 and right-YR24, I colored the areas where I want it darkest. Always color darkest around the face area and especially the neck area.
Next, using YR24 - left and YR21- right color next section overlapping the previous color.
Using YR21- left and Y21- right color and overlap the colors, blending as needed.
Now use your lightest colors Y21- left and YR31- right. Make sure you go back and overlap the colors, blending as needed. Blending can be accomplished by a circular motion or overlapping, or scribble motion. Each person will find what is best for them.
Now go back with your medium shade and make some sections darker to give shape to the hair.
I used YR24- left and YR21- right.
Copics used are Left- E13, E15, E17, E18, right- E33, E37, E95. Start with the darkest color E18- left and E37- right outline the hair as it has layers.
Using E17- left and E33- right add the areas that the hair curves.
Using E15- left and E95- right color the areas leaving the crown part of the head the lightest. On the right, color all of it.
On the left use E13 and on the right E95. Color the lightest area on the left and on the right go over the all the hair except the crown of the head where the lightest color is.
Using Copics E41, E43, E44, E47, E49-left, E31, E41, E33, E57, E59- right.
Color using the darkest color. E49- left and E59- right.
Using E47-left and E57- right.Color and overlap the area next to the darkest color.
Using E44- left and E33- right. Go next to and overlap the other colors plus add the areas where the hair curves.
Using E43- left and E31- right, color and overlap leaving the areas where light will reflect on the hair.
Using E41 on both digis, color and overlap blending as needed.
Using Copics C3, C5, C7, C10- left, W3, W5, W7, W10- right.
Color the darkest areas using C10- left and W10- right.
Using C7- left and W7- right, add it where the hair curves and on one side of each layer next to the darkest color.
Using C5- left and W5- right, color in all the areas except where the light reflects on the hair.
Using C3- left and W3- right, color and blend the colors to finish the hair. You now have a cool and warm black.
Here are the digis completely colored and cut out.
I forgot to take a photo of the school supplies. I printed them off so I have 6 of each one as I was not sure how many I would need for the album. You will see them throughout the album.
I decided to make a Mini album and a card. This is the front outside cover of the album. The album pages are 6" x 6".
I am showing the pages as they are in the book.
The back cover of the mini album.
Here is my card. The card is 4 1/4" x 5 1/2"
I hope you enjoyed my tutorial on coloring hair. There are many color combinations you could use just as there are varying colors of hair in real life. I hope to do another tutorial on gray hair and light blond hair later on. I would love to see any projects you try using my technique and color combos. You can do this with other brands of alcohol markers too.
Until next time, Happy Crafting!
